Mama’s Circle: Mother’s Day Event

Mother’s Day is a truly significant day in Palestinian culture. Set on the first day of Spring, it is widely celebrated across Palestinian cities & villages where you will always see flowers sold on every corner on this special day.

It is a day when everyone pauses to appreciate their Mama, which is why we chose to hold a mother’s day event for our Mama’s Circle, to appreciate our Mama’s!

Our Mama’s Meet

While I haven’t written about the Mama group here YET, this group was created by myself and Tamam, to offer a space for mother’s to learn, vent, socialize and relax. This was our first time bringing the group together, and we knew we had to make it extra special.

We gathered on a Friday afternoon at al-mustawda3 space in Ramallah, who hosted the event in their beautiful location. al-mustawda3 is one of my favorite places in Ramallah and it was perfect to host such an event, especially because its large space allowed us to create different stations, most importantly, a station for kids tagging along to play under the watch of two nannies.

The event was organized by myself and a friend of mine, Tamam, working at al-mustawda3 and we wanted the gathering to be a space for Mama’s to relax, get spoiled and just have a good afternoon.

Like any special event, it all starts with the food, and collaboratively with the incomparable Chef Falastine, we came up with a delicious menu for our Mamas.

The event was attended by most of the Mama’s in our group and it was a beautiful opportunity to finally meet everyone in the same space!

The delicious food, lively play of children and sight of happy mothers all around brought me so much joy. It was inspiring to see a support system emerging, seeing everyone help each other out throughout the day (especially Tamam, who’s patience and spontaneity with children catches me off guard every time).

Next Steps

Our Mama’s Circle has yet to meet again since the event, but we are definitely not done! We will be kicking things up again for summer, taking advantage of the warm weather to meet again and spend quality time with our amazing Mama’s!
